Deer-Tolerant Plants

Given the challenges many homeowners have with deer, I am always intrigued by lists and recommendations of plants that are resistant to deer and am always on the lookout for new resources. Depending on the list, the information may be very helpful, completely ridiculous, or a mixture of both. Believe it or not, I have seen plantain lilies (i.e., deer candy) listed as deer resistant! And don’t be fooled, planting deer resistant species in front of or around susceptible species to protect the susceptible plants from browsing damage has no merit whatsoever. Caution is always advised.
