Too often we seem to overlook or ignore the value and significance of healthy soil to our profession and the plants we grow, maintain, and recommend to our customers and the general public. As green industry professionals we should, of course, know better and constantly strive to preserve its many functions in natural and managed ecosystems. Several new publications produced by soil scientists at Iowa State University in collaboration with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS; United States Department of Agriculture/USDA) provide a wealth of information that should be of interest to growers, garden center staff, landscape designers, landscape managers, and the general public.
