Steve Rak, Rak Consulting

Steve Rak started working in the landscape industry over 20 years ago when his father, who was recently downsized from United Airlines, decided to start a landscape company. They began working out of the family garage with an old pickup truck and some used equipment, and Southwest Landscape Management was born. Over the years Rak took over the day to day operations of the company and grew the company to over $1 million in sales. Southwest Landscape Management is a leader in the Cleveland market and is positioned to continue growing its commercial maintenance business. Rak is a past president of The Ohio Landscape Association, is an active PLANET member and has written for and appeared in many trade industry publications. In addition, he has spoken at a number of trade shows and seminars around the country and he writes a monthly column for Turf Magazine. He enjoys sharing what he has learned over the years with his consulting clients.


Daniel Gilliland, SnowEx

Daniel Gilliland has been working and innovating in the snow and ice industry for over 20 years.  Starting as a sub-contractor in 1994, he quickly rose to manage snow for a very large snow company in 1996.  In an effort to become more efficient, Gilliland utilized his understanding of the management of snow removal and created a proprietary snow removal tracking software system. This system enabled him to monitor his fleet of snow removal professionals in real time for maximum efficiency fulfilling contracts and supporting billing.  In 2003, he earned a Certified Snow Contractor (CSP) certification through the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA). Gilliland created two companies in 2004: Snowfighters.US, a top 100 snow and ice company and CrewTracker Software.  His record of innovation and experience in the industry lead to his nomination to become President of SIMA in 2011.  Gilliland sold his two companies in 2012 and 2013 respectively.  He now works professionally educating commercial snow and ice contractors throughout North America on the effectiveness of ice control using liquid applications, in addition to the numerous financial and environmental benefits.
