March 2016 Pesticide Certification: Workshop & Exam - CLASS IS FULL

Prepare for the category A and E pesticide applicator certification exam by attending this 1 ½ day study program. The workshop can also be viewed as a refresher course for those already certified. This workshop does NOT qualify for recertification.

Due to limited space, we are unable to transfer between class dates for the March and April Pesticide Workshops.

Program Description: Prepare for the category A and E pesticide applicator certification exam by attending this 1 ½ day study program. The workshop can also be viewed as a refresher course for those already certified. 

Taking the Exam on Day 2 is optional. MDA staff will be administering certification exams on Day 2. You MUST apply and pay for your license online prior to the class date in order to take the exam.

Please note: This instruction program is intended to be a review of information in the study manuals. The instructors recommend that you consider purchasing the following three study manuals prior to attending the course:

  • Category A-1: National Pesticide Applicator Core Manual (Jan. 2007)
  • Category A-2: Minnesota Supplement for Category A (Dec. 2012)
  • Category E 2nd Edition: Turf & Ornamentals Pesticide Manual (2014) 

There are two options for ordering (note, when ordering, it will take approximately 1 week to receive your order):

To test and obtain a Pesticide Applicators License, you MUST:

  • Apply and pay for a Commercial or Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator License PRIOR to the workshop. This is done online at – You must print the confirmation page and bring it to the exam. The cost is $75. Contact MDA with license questions - 651-201-6615 or
  • MDA will no longer accept payment for the test at the time of testing. Exams must be applied for and paid for prior to the testing date.
  • Exams will only be given to those who have completed the application and paid for their exam in advance.

You must pass both Category A – Core and Category E – Turf and Ornamental exams by 70%.

Workshop payments to MNLA do not include the cost of the Pesticide Applicator License application fee.

Vera Krischik is an associate professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Minnesota and performs research and extension on insects in landscapes, greenhouses, and nurseries. She is interested in developing integrated pest management (IPM) programs that reduce pesticide use, encourage biological control, and use biorational pesticides when appropriate. She teaches a course on landscape IPM that is open to participants in the green industry.

Mike McDonough is a research fellow in the department of entomology at the University of Minnesota. Mike has worked on IPM research and education since 1999. McDonough holds an undergraduate degree in business and a master’s degree in agriculture from the University of Minnesota.

Free parking, coffee and lunch included both days.

Registration Refund Policy: For all MNLA education events, we will gladly make a full refund of your registration fee if cancellation notice is received more than two business days prior to the event. If cancellation is received in the two business days prior to the event, a 50 percent refund will be given. No refunds will be given for no-shows or cancellations made the day of the event. Cancellations may be made in writing, by fax, or by telephone call received at the MNLA office during normal business hours.
