The first half of the seminar (Hot Legal Topics) is an opportunity to learn about recent changes in the legal landscape and how they will impact your business in 2020. The second half of the morning (Sales and Use Tax Best Practices for Green Industry Businesses) will be spent discussing best practices for sales and use tax for your green industry business.

Hot Legal Topics 2020

Attorneys Bryan Zlimen and Jared Nusbaum, Zlimen & McGuiness, PLLC, will provide an overview of current hot topics in the legal landscape including the final overtime rule and the state minimum wage increase. The attorneys will discuss these new rules and laws, and the policies surrounding them. Learn what your business needs to do to be in compliance.  

Bryan Zlimen is an attorney and manager at the law firm of Zlimen & McGuiness, PLLC.

Before becoming an attorney, Zlimen worked in the landscaping and residential construction industries for 12 years. Today, he puts his experience as a laborer, foreman, and small business owner to use advising Green Industry professionals on legal matters that are important to them.


Jared Nusbaum is an attorney at the law firm of Zlimen and McGuiness, PLLC.

His practice areas include civil and business litigation, employment law, and small business law. Nusbaum is active in the Volunteer Lawyers Network and the Hennepin County and Ramsey County Bar Associations. Nusbaum received his law degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Penn State University. 


Sales and Use Tax: Best Practices

Sales and Use Tax is complicated, and its compliance can be a burden. Learn new ways to reduce the burden while collecting and paying the correct tax. We will focus on practices to be compliant, efficiently preparing returns and being ready for the auditor.

Colleen Netzell, CPA, is a Senior Tax Manager at Copeland Buhl.

Her passion for state and local tax has followed her through a variety of industries and positions; from working with several fortune 500 companies to advising small business. Her current position is working with mid-market and small business clients. She has her JD from Mitchell Hamline Law School and Master of Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota.

Mitch Giese is a Senior Accountant at Copeland Buhl. 

His focus is on business taxes and is a member of the firm’s State and Local Tax practice. In addition, he has done compliance work for Non-Profit entities. Mitch graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelor's in accountancy and a bachelor's degree in Managerial Finance and Accounting.





MNLA Registration Refund Policy: For all MNLA education events, MNLA will gladly make a full refund of your registration fee if cancellation notice is received more than two business days in advance of the event. In the two business days prior to the event, a 50 percent refund will be given. No refunds will be given for no-shows or cancellations made the day of the event. Cancellations may be made in writing, by fax, or by telephone call received at the MNLA office during normal business hours.
