One of the keys to success for landscape design and construction firms is understanding the market – the interests and desires of potential customers – and having the skills to create landscape design solutions that address those needs. According to Missy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), the latest landscape design trends highlight a desire by homeowners to “bring the indoors out” and “create comfortable landscapes that are both functional and beautiful” and suggest “a shift toward sustainable landscapes that reflect a renewed sense of mindfulness for the earth and its ecosystems.” Ms. Henriksen’s belief is based on an NALP analysis of the top landscape design trends for 2016. The annual trend analysis and predictions are based on consumer demands, lifestyle trends, and a variety of horticultural, architectural, and landscape design factors.
Recognizing and responding to these types of market trends in the proper context can be a challenge for nursery and landscape professionals, but these outcomes are essential if consumer interests and desires are to be anticipated and satisfied. Information gathered through consumer research, including the NALP survey completed earlier this year, can be helpful in this regard. Read more.
