8:00 AM—10:00 AM: 2014 NEC Code for MN Power Limited Relicensure

Andrew Lindquist, Links Systems, Inc.
In this session, Lindquist will cover the following topics:

  • Code layout and current updates from 2011 NEC code.
  • Clarification of common Code definitions.
  • Applications relevant to the Landscape Lighting profession.  

10:00 AM—12:00 noon: Residential Landscape Lighting-Part 1

Residential landscape lighting is not rocket science, but there is a science to it. In Residential Landscape Lighting Part 1 and Part 2, McKay will discuss everything you need to know about landscape lighting, including:

With the rapid evolution of LED technology in low voltage lighting over the last decade, our industry has also seen an increase in advanced controlling options. Considering the many advantages of LED technology, including energy efficiency and flexible controlling, it has changed the way we design, install and maintain outdoor lighting; creating an abundance of new opportunities in landscape and structural accent lighting applications. This session will explore the latest technological advances in outdoor lighting control that allow lighting professionals to create various customizable zones for each site to maximize safety, energy efficiency and aesthetics.

Andrew Lindquist is the owner of Links Systems, Inc, providing consultation and online development for the horticultural industry. He has 35+ years experience in classroom, online, and professional presentations for both public and private institutions. Lindquist is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture with a minor in Business Management. His past work experience includes: golf course superintendent/manager; post secondary vocational instructor in landscape/golf maintenance/irrigation design and installation; sales person and area manager for local and international based manufacturers.

Tim McKay has worked in the landscape lighting industry for over 23 years. He grew up in the lighting industry, working for one of the largest lighting companies in the country. McKay has owned his own lighting company in Denver and worked for two of the largest manufacturers of landscape lighting. Tim McKay has a real passion for lighting design and for teaching professional landscape lighting. He currently is the Midwest District Sales Manager for Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting and is in charge of seven states.

Drew W. Tedford is the sales & design support manager for FX Luminaire. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1997 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA), he worked for various residential design/planning firms in Arkansas before moving to Arizona in 1999. While in AZ, he continued his design/planning experience until 2004 when he began working for a landscape design/build firm. This is where he developed his passion for low voltage lighting design. In 2007, he joined the lighting manufacturing industry as a manufacturer’s representative. Now based in Chicago, he has hosted hundreds of professional design and engineering educational workshops on low-voltage lighting throughout the U.S. His curriculums are CEU approved through ASLA and AIA.
