Adopting Best Practices in Advanced Snow Management
Martin Tirado, SIMA
Bob Smart, Smart Scapes, Inc.

Building a sustainable, long lasting service model in snow and ice management is extremely challenging. There aren’t many methods that snow contractors can employ to benchmark their services and gain insight into areas of improvement. The Best Practices Checklist for Snow & Ice Management is a simple resource that a snow business can use to align the company and its business functions with critical areas.

Robert Smart, CSP will walk attendees through some of the major elements on the checklist, and provide key details and insight into how any snow company, regardless of size or market, can use Best Practices to improve and grow quality and consistency in service.

The discussion will include help related to:

Core safety training tips and tools
Site engineering plans as they relate to plowing, deicing, and sidewalk operations
Documentation and communication of service
Organizational structure and employee accountability

11:45-12:30—Lunch (included with attendee registration)

12:30-1:00—Advanced Plowing Technology

David Forsmark, Western Products

Efficient plowing techniques are today’s competitive edge to combat margin compression in our industry.  Plows have come a long way since the horse drawn wood plows and today single hinge and double hinge plows can reduce plow time up to 50% over the straight truck plow blades of yesterday.  In this session, you will learn how you can improve your plowing capacity while reducing your capital and operating expenses

1:00-1:30—Dedicated Trade Show Time

1:30-2:15—Snow & Ice Management BMP’s, Part 2
Bob Smart, Smart Scapes, Inc.

In Part 2 of Snow & Ice Management BMP’s, Smart will continue his discussion and dive deeper into how your company can use Best Practices to improve and grow quality and consistency in service.

2:30-3:00—5 Steps to Make Sure You Get Paid for Your  Work
Patrick McGuiness, Zlimen & McGuiness

Learn about five steps you can take that will make it easier to ensure you are paid for all of the hard work you do. From contract set up to following up with customers, this seminar will discuss good legal and business practices to help with your collection rates. We will also discuss how to proceed when you are not paid for work, and the different options for recovering from bad customers
