Program Description:

Prepare for the category A and E pesticide applicator certification exam by attending this 1½ day study program. MDA staff will administer certification exams on Day 2. This workshop does not qualify for pesticide recertification.

This workshop does not guarantee passing the Category A and E exams.

Please Note:

This instruction program is intended to be a review of information in the study manuals. Applicants must purchase and review the following three study manuals prior to attending the course: 

  • Category A: National Pesticide Applicator Certification Core Manual, 2nd Edition, published 2014, adopted by Minnesota February, 2015.
  • Category A: Minnesota Supplement,2nd Edition December 2012 (green cover)
  • Category E: Turf and Ornamentals - 4th Edition, June 2014

IMPORTANT:  The workshop payment to MNLA DOES NOTinclude the cost of the Pesticide Applicator License application fee. You must apply and pay for the Pesticide Applicator License prior to attending the workshop.

To test and obtain a Pesticide Applicators License, you MUST:

  • Apply and pay for a Commercial or Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator License PRIOR to the workshop. This is done online at – You must print the confirmation page and bring it to the exam. The cost is $64.
  • Contact MDA with license questions - 651-201-6615 or
  • MDA will no longer accept payment for the test at the time of testing. Exams must be applied for and paid for prior to the testing date.
  • Exams will only be given to those who have completed the application and paid for their exam in advance.

Vera Krischik is an associate professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Minnesota and performs research and extension on insects in landscapes, greenhouses, and nurseries. She is interested in developing integrated pest management (IPM) programs that reduce pesticide use, encourage biological control, and use biorational pesticides when appropriate. She teaches a course on landscape IPM that is open to participants in the green industry.

Parking Information:

  • Two days of metered parking will be provided by MNLA. Parking is available in specified state-owned, metered parking locations on the Capitol Complex. Click here for a copy of the Capitol Complex map. If you park in a lot other than than those specified on the map, you will have to pay for parking. 
  • A parking code for each day will be emailed to you prior to the workshop. it's important that MNLA has your correct email address so you receive the parking code.
  • Note: Securing a parking spot and walking from the lot to the Freeman Building may take additional time.  Please plan for extra time to arrive at the workshop. The workshop will begin promptly at 8:00 AM on both days.

Registration Refund Policy: For all MNLA education events, we will gladly make a full refund of your registration fee if cancellation notice is received more than two business days prior to the event. If cancellation is received in the two business days prior to the event, a 50 percent refund will be given. No refunds will be given for no-shows or cancellations made the day of the event. Cancellations may be made in writing, by fax, or by telephone call received at the MNLA office during normal business hours.
