Vegetables: Buy or Plant?
Maybe you’ve started out this season with great plans of growing your own vibrant, healthy vegetable garden. My neighbor did, but then after rain, heat, insects and weeds she gave up and mowed over her garden last week. Now the neighborhood rabbits have salsa.
So now what do you do? Head back to your favorite independent garden center and start shopping. Not for plants, but for items ready to go. Many garden centers now carry delicious fresh veggies during the season, at either a stand in their parking lot or inside the store. Some offer crop shares for grown produce. An MNLA member in Apple Valley even has a sweet corn drive up window! Plus, while you’re at your neighborhood garden center picking up dinner you can find out tips on how to make your garden grow next season. Don’t throw in the trowel - maybe next year don't bite off more than you can plant. Good luck!
